The
Call for
MUMIA 911
September 11, 1999
National Day of Art to Stop the Execution
of Mumia Abu-Jamal
"Because
we value the lives of the 1.75 million Black, Latino and other poor
people locked down in the prisons of America...
"Because
we value justice and a society that promotes the full flowering
of all its people...
"Because
we stand against the politics that try to suffocate and crush the
human spirit...
"Because
of all this, we come together as artists to stop the execution of
Mumia Abu-Jamal.
"They
have crossed the line. This is not justice. We do not consent to
the murder of this man. We will not accept the grossly unjust trial
that sentenced Mumia to death because of his political beliefs as
a former Black Panther. We will not stand by as they try to silence
a journalist known to many as the "Voice of the Voiceless."
"Mumia
911-- Emergency! On September 11, 1999, we will stomp the earth,
lift our voices, write, sing, act and paint the walls. We will create
a culture of resistance to stop the killing of Mumia Abu-Jamal.
Mumia is you. Mumia is me. Mumia is all of us. Join us now!"
