TWILIGHT:
LOS ANGELES
PBS April 29 (check local listings)
"The
film adaptation of Anna Deavere Smith's acclaimed one-woman
play premieres on PBS April 29 at 9PM as part of the Thirteen/WNET
New York's STAGE ON SCREEN drama series.
Directed
by Marc Levin, the film interweaves Smith's performance with
documentary footage. Not only does Smith's virtuoso performance
capture the tumultuous aftermath of the Rodney King trial verdict,
she gives voice to dozens of real-life people from all sides
of the conflict who she interviewed and whose words she speaks
-- from a Korean grocer to a Hollywood agent to a juror to NRA
leader Charlton Heston.
This
powerful film has an extraordinary --possibly unprecedented
-- potential to stimulate far-reaching dialogue across races,
classes and generations."
