Anti-War
Hip Hop Concert
is Censored in San Francisco
From
Davey D:
"While the Bay is dealing with club woes there's some more sinister
stuff going on. We call it the silencing. The Coup and dead
prez along with several other local Hip Hop groups have been
planning to do an anti-war concert in San Francisco [Sat Oct
26]. The event is due to take place at historic Delores Park
which has along history of being a gathering spot for rallies.
Michael Franti recently gave a free concert there. Now Boots
and dead prez have been having major problems getting their
permits secured. The last word was they were given permission
to perform but without amplified sound. They were told that
they could perform with bullhorns. Talk about craziness.
"Across
the Bay in Oakland, the October 22 Committee
which has been organizing against police brutality were initially
denied their permit for the big event and rally they planned
to have in front of Oakland's City Hall this Monday. Folks were
gearing up to kick up dust regarding that, fortunately OPD gave
in at the last minute and granted them their permits. However,
we will have to keep you posted about the case surrounding The
Coup and dead prez."
