Don't miss Piñero,
the film about Miguel Piñero,
the playwright and poet from NYC
(a founder of Nuyorican Poets Café).

The film been out for awhile, but can still be seen in NYC (Sunshine on Houston Ave.) and LA.

TV reporter: "It's the first time a Puerto Rican playwright has cleaned up at the Tony's." Miguel: "You know, we've been cleaning up and down this town for years, in your offices, your fine hotels." To see a trailer for the film: click here (need Flash 5)

Lynn Geller said this about PINERO in Bomb (the magazine): "Poet and playwright Miguel Pi–ero, best known for his play and subsequent film Short Eyes, was a product of the politicization of prison inmates in the seventies. And it's a tribute to Leon Ichaso [director] that he has made a biographical film that transcends the genre. With an obvious sympathy for his subject, a collage-like structure and innovative use of dialogue, Piñero manages to replace voyeurism with a masterful blend of form and content."

Leon Ichaso's other films: El Super, 1979; Sugar Hill, 1993; Bitter Sugar, 1996; Crossover Dreams, 1985; Hendrix, 2000.
