On this day, thousands of people will converge in Central Park at 1 pm and at 3pm we will assemble in a circle to form a gigantic image of the world. Then, as one, we will take the Not in Our Name Pledge of Resistance. Oct 6 is the day before U.S. bombs started falling on Afghanistan one year ago. Join together on this day to pledge to resist the injustices done by the U.S. government in our name.

People will be coming from across the country to NYC for Oct. 6. There will also be gatherings in Los Angeles, San Francisco.

This Evening of Conscience follows on the heels of the September 19 publication of the Statement as a full-page ad in the New York Times. Signers of this statement (in addition to those performing) Include Robert Altman, Laurie Anderson, Oliver Stone, Gore Vidal, Jane Fonda, Mos Def, Martin Luther King III, Susan Sarandon, Barbara Kruger, Allan Gurganus, Michael Eric Dyson, Ozomatli, Jonathan Schell, Viggo Mortensen and hundreds of other noted artists, public intellectuals and activists. The statementās comprehensive criticism of the Bush policies, and call for resistance, marks a new phase in the national debate over the "war on terrorism," and its concomitant, if undeclared, "war on civil liberties."

The October 3 Evening is presented by the Not in Our Name Statement of Conscience Signers and co-sponsored by the Cooper Union Continuing Education and Public Program Office.
