5th Annual
TRIBUTE TO HORACE TAPSCOTT
JAZZ BAKERY, Los Angeles
MARCH 30TH, 2003 at 2:00pm

The members of UGMAA and PAPA are pleased to announce that they will be performing at the JAZZ BAKERY, MARCH 30TH, 2003 at 2:00pm in a TRIBUTE TO HORACE TAPSCOTT, founder, composer, pianist, and activist who passed away February 27th, 1999.

This will be the 5th Annual event , the first event was held at Washington H.S. February 28th, 1999. What was planned as the 1st tribute, turned out to be more of a memorial. Mr. Tapscott passed away hours before many musicians, poets, artists, and community leaders were able to honor, award, and present the communities appreciation of the many contributions made by him.

The concert will bring together two successful musicians (Michael Session, band leader and Dwight Trible, director of vocals), both have recorded with Mr. Tapscott and also have led there own bands and recorded.

Together Session and Trible bring a new inspiration to the compositions of Horace. They also perform the works of many other musicians and feature many from around the community as well as performing the works of Arkestra members.

Featured guest will include Kabasa Drum and Dance Troupe and Darryll Moore with the Keys of Light. ΚΚΚΚ Since the passing of Mr. Tapscott the Ark and Voice of UGMAA have been preserving and performing the music. Keeping the legacy and works of Horace and others alive.

April 6th will mark the birth of Horace, so we pay tribute to his birth, his life, his works, his commitment to the community and his passing. And as a part of the celebration of his birth the Ark and Voice will also be performing at the Howling Monk on that date at 6:00pm.

As Horace always said, "our commitment is contributive and not competitive" and within our ranks are original and new musicians and vocalist keeping the tradition alive.
